Has your child been receiving speech therapy, has progressed well, but now needs the opportunity to use those new skills appropriately with peers and adults? Is your child’s language ability at age level, but they don’t seem to be comfortable making that leap to using those skills in conversation?
Abilities United’s Conversation Club meets weekly to practice age-appropriate social communication skills between peers. Skills introduced and practiced in small groups include: initiating conversation, maintaining topic, asking appropriate questions, answering with relevant information, using appropriate volume and tone, using eye-contact, using and interpreting body language, and following general conversational constructions.
The 60-minute group is co-lead by a Speech-Language Pathologist and Developmental Specialist with structured lessons, role-playing, and adult-facilitated conversations revolving around high-interest topics. If your child needs a place to practice or to build confidence conversing with peers, we may have an appropriate Conversation Club to promote positive conversational exchanges.
The group follows an 8-week curriculum, so to benefit fully from the program, children should attend for the full 8 week session. The cost for the 8 week session is $600 ($75 per session). If purchased individually, sessions are charged at $85 per session. The first session of this new group starts on Friday 6th April at 2.15pm and each session lasts one hour.
