Determining Specific Learning Disability Eligibility Using Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2)
The California Department of Education (CDE) has posted a document entitled Determining Specific Learning Disability Eligibility Using Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2)
This document was developed by a technical work group consisting of general and special education staff, community organizations, parents, and other stakeholders to address the development of a framework for considering how RtI2 data can be used in the determination of Specific Learning Disability (SLD) in California. Specifically, it provides guidance to local educational agencies (LEAs) as they work to strengthen performance for struggling students before educational problems increase in intensity and special education seems the only viable option. Further, LEAs can utilize data gathered from using RtI2 in the identification process to determine if a child requires special education services.
