BILINGUAL EDUCATION RESOURCES SPECIALIST

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for targeted service to the needs of families whose first language is Spanish. Responsible for providing emotional support, information, and training to families with children with special needs and to the professionals serving those families related to understanding and accessing education services. Conduct outreach activities in conjunction with other Spanish speaking PHP staff. Maintain accurate records of all contacts with families and professionals. Provide outreach to and collaboration with community agencies serving the client family population. Support the growth of parent leadership in education and education systems change. Reports to Director of Education.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS: 

STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES: Listen to family concerns, help them determine the needs of the family, provide guidance/training and accurately complete database intake forms for record keeping. Maintain a high level of knowledge related to special education and other laws, educational strategies, assessment, conflict resolution, and other process related to accessing educational services. Translate material from English to Spanish.

TRAINING: Develop training curriculum in Spanish. Identify venues, set dates, support marketing, set up, evaluate, and conduct trainings based on identified needs and agency priorities. Conduct trainings in English as part of the Education team.

ADVOCACY: Provide direct advocacy support as determined by family needs and agency priorities.

QUALITY ASSURANCE: Provide services consistent with standards.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT: Responsible for timely and accurate collection and summary of all data and information that may be required for agency reporting.

PROGRAM PERFORMANCE: Responsible for the accomplishment of all Education goals, objectives and timelines required by the agency, funders, or grants and contracts applicable to the Education department. Suggest new programs appropriate to family need and PHP plan. Responsible for individual collaboration with education and community based agency representatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum some college, emphasis on behavioral science desired
Minimum 2 years experience working with families around IEP issues and special education law
Excellent written and oral communications skills in English and Spanish
Experience as a trainer, able to implement best practices for training adult learners
Knowledge of community resources
Computer skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
