We at the Kennedy Krieger Institute dedicate ourselves to helping children and adolescents with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system achieve their potential and participate as fully as possible in family, school and community life.
Located in Baltimore, MD, Kennedy Krieger Institute is an internationally recognized institution dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with pediatric developmental disabilities and disorders of the brain, spinal cord and musculoskeletal system, through patient care, special education, research, and professional training.

Adaptive Sports Program
The Physically Challenged Sports Program offers a range of programs that are both competitive and recreational to fit a range of abilities. Through these activities, children and adults achieve goals many thought were impossible.
Animal-Assisted Therapy
The Animal-Assisted Therapy Program at Kennedy Krieger Institute incorporates dogs in therapy sessions with the goal of improving patients’ social, emotional, physical and/or cognitive functioning. Dogs can be used during therapy for both motivational and educational purposes.
Aquatic Therapy Program
Aquatics is used as a treatment modality throughout the rehabilitation process. The water allows patients to escape the limitations of gravity, helps them to become stronger and provides them with the ability to do more in the pool than they can on land, so they can more quickly achieve their therapeutic goals. Assistive Technology Clinic
A team of speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists and physical therapists work with rehabilitation technology specialists to provide services and equipment, such as power wheelchairs and communication systems, to patients.

Ataxia and Cerebellar Disorders Clinic
The Ataxia and Cerebellar Disorders Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute is one of the few clinics in the country that take an interdisciplinary approach to the evaluation and treatment of ataxia and cerebellar disorders in children.
Audiology Clinic
The Audiology Clinic offers comprehensive audiological and hearing aid evaluations and specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of infants, children and and adults with hearing disorders.
Audiology Department
The Audiology Department offers a variety of audiological services through its inpatient and outpatient programs, as well as professional training opportunities for those seeking careers in audiology and speech pathology.
Barth Syndrome Clinic
This interdisciplinary clinic is one of the few programs in the world dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with Barth syndrome. Experts from a wide range of medical specialties collaborate to provide a full range of care.
Batten Disease Clinic
The Batten Disease Clinic at Kennedy Krieger Institute focuses on diagnosing and treating people with Batten disease.

Behavior Health Services for Military Families
This program, offered by the Behavioral Psychology Department, helps treat behavioral problems that often accompany deployment and other military stressors.
Behavior Management Clinic
This clinic assesses and treats common behavioral problems and disorders for children who have varying levels of function, including mild cognitive and speech delays. The clinic also focuses strongly on caregiver training.
Behavioral Psychology Department
The Behavioral Psychology Department strives to help children attain and sustain adaptive, healthy positive behaviors using the principles of applied behavior analysis.

Center for Autism and Related Disorders

The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) combines research, developmental assessment, diagnosis, interventions, community outreach and training to improve the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), their families and the communities that care for them.
Center for Brain Injury Recovery

This center serves children and adolescents with rehabilitation needs caused by neurologic injury (concussion or more severe injury) or illness. Components include inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment programs, outpatient clinics to evaluate and address short- and long-term rehabilitation needs and follow-up services, a transitional program to aid in community reintegration, and community-based therapies.
Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress

The Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress at Kennedy Krieger Institute provides mental health evaluation and treatment services to children, adolescents and families who have experienced or may be at risk for trauma through physical or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence and community violence. The education, training and technical assistance offered to parents, professionals and community organizations promote greater understanding of the developmental, emotional and behavioral consequences of trauma and communicates the most effective ways to provide care.

Center for Genetic Muscle Disorders

This center provides individualized interdisciplinary care for children and adults with muscular dystrophy and congenital myopathy. Comprehensive care involves diagnosis and management of the disease from neurologists and rehabilitative therapists with muscle expertise. Patients receive access to novel therapies and research, and can remain in the program from childhood through adulthood.
Center for Innovation and Leadership in Special Education

The Center for Innovation and Leadership in Special Education fellowship will mentor and train future leaders in special education who have an advanced understanding of learning in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, as well as expertise in applying this knowledge to school and classroom settings. Fellows of the Center for Innovation and Leadership in Special Education will go on to develop effective teaching practices, learning methods, curricula, and informed educational policies so that children with neurodevelopmental disabilities can receive the best possible education.
