SMCOE Professional Development Opportunity – The Eyes Have It: Tapping The Visual Modality To Increase Teaching Effectiveness
All educators encounter students who have difficulty comprehending oral language. Information conveyed visually can help students with language comprehension problems experience greater success at school. This workshop will demonstrate how effective use of visual supports can benefit students with and without disabilities; increase comprehension and retention; promote good work habits; foster independence; and reduce problem behavior.
Outcomes:
- Participants will become familiar with a wide range of visual supports
- Learn how to infuse visual supports into the classroom environment
- Collaborate with other participants in designing visual supports for specific students, activities and/or environments
Audience: General education teachers, special education teachers, designated instructional service providers, school psychologists, paraeducators, and parents, (K – 12th Grade).
Presenters: Brian Mathis, Speech and Language Specialist, and Jennifer Simmons, School Psychologist, Diagnostic Center, North
