Mental Health Services: The Elephant in the Room

Thu, Nov 5, 2009: 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

Keynote speakers: Through the Looking Glass therapists and a panel of consumers and parents

  • What CCS conditions typically have a mental health component?
  • How do you treat adjustment disorder/depression in either or both the parent and child?
  • What are the signs? Alcohol and drug abuse?
  • What are the mental health considerations when treating a congenital/chronic condition vs. an acquired disability?
  • What services are available and how do you access them?
  • Are there cultural considerations when making mental health referrals?

These questions and more will be answered in an attempt to acknowledge the importance of mental health services for children with special health care needs. The CRISS Project once again will face the "elephant in the room".
