Mon, Jan 11, 2010: 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Instructor: Cheryl Klaiman, Ph.D.

This course will focus on initial signs and symptoms that should be addressed with a developmental specialist. We will talk about the differences between the different subtypes of autism spectrum disorders, including Asperger’s syndrome and PDD-NOS as well as other commonly confused diagnoses such as Nonverbal Learning Disabilities.

We will also distinguish between autism spectrum disorders and speech and language impairments and sensory impairments that do not meet criteria for autism.

Finally, we will address different treatment strategies and approaches and talk about how you can make some decisions about what therapies should be indicated.
