The Building Blocks of a Special Care Plan: Where do Parents Begin?
The Miceli Financial Partners Special Care Planning Team was formed to provide financial strategies to families with members who have special needs. Families with special needs have unique financial circumstances that are often overlooked by financial advisors. As Special Care planners, they have been certified by the American College, using a curriculum that was developed in part by Exceptional Parent Magazine. Each member of the team has received specialized and exclusive training to address these unique needs and situations. In addition to having their own practice doing traditional financial planning, each member of the team has a connection to the Special Needs community.
Families that have gone through the process state that they have a keener sense of "peace of mind" when it comes to issues such as how to continue to care for our loved ones when you're no longer around. Another important issue is determining ongoing costs associated with care and projecting them out into the future in order to help with budgeting and saving. Many common mistakes have been avoided, such as, having an adult child as a beneficiary on a 401k or a life insurance policy that would potentially disqualify them from government benefits.
The team has worked with many different care providers and organizations in the area including, Morgan Autism Center, The May Institute, The Bay School, Easter Seals, Parents helping Parents, San Andreas Regional Center, and Muscular Dystrophy Association. Conducting educational series like the one at Morgan Autism Center allows the team to provide relevant and important information to the families who use the services of the various organizations in order to give them a starting place for how to help to provide lasting financial security for their loved ones.
