Creating a Person Centered Profile

Wed, Feb 16, 2011: 6:45 pm to 9:00 pm

At our January support meeting, we chatted about a lot of concerns but the universal concern shared by all, and I think any parent, is "What will happen to my child when I am gone?" That "my child's challenges will be misunderstood and intensified by those charged with supporting (him/her)" and all the others rang the same.

How do we prepare for our absence, whether temporary or permanent?  We plan. We do our best, and knowing that we did our best, we may find peace.  It is not something over which we have control but it is something that we can take action on, thus giving us a sense of control over the outcomes.

Join us tonight in the beginning of the planning.  We will create tools for our sons and daughters that allow someone that is briefly familiar with our children to have a better view into the window of what is important to them and what is necessary to support them, as well as what people like and admire about them.

Using the basis of Person Centered Practices you will leave with the information that will then be put into a one page person centered description about your son/daughter.  This document will enable another to have a better understanding about the critical information that improves the quality of life for our sons and daughters.

PACDD, Parents and Caregivers of Adult Children with Developmental Disabilities, is designed to meet the needs of the parents and caregivers, including adult siblings, of adults with developmental disabilities. Join other parents and family caregivers with adult children with a variety of developmental disabilities, including autism.

Families that have children that are not regional center clients find some of our meetings helpful and are welcome to join at any event.

The speaker series typically meets on the third Wednesday of each month, though we do host special events on the weekends and on days that work for a particular highly sought after speaker.  They are held at Parents Helping Parents, except in July and August when we take the summer off.
Our families come together at a potluck quarterly, usually in March, June, September and December. Bring a pizza, or whatever you like, and your own beverages. We need to know how many people to expect, so please RSVP.

Parent only meetings are from 6:45pm - 9:00pm
Family potluck meetings are from 6:15pm - 8:00pm

Please RSVP for all Events by adding yourself below or by calling PHP to reserve a place.
