Somatic Practices for Effective Parenting

Sat, Sep 18, 2010: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Parenting experts emphasize the importance of parental self-awareness and self-regulation in therapeutic parenting. Using a well-established somatic coaching model, this experiential workshop provides a framework and set of practices that a parent can use to improve his or her capacity for self-awareness, self-regulation, and attunement, allowing more effective action toward personal and parental priorities.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify specific situations and associated somatic warning signs where parents' physical and emotional responses interfere with effective parenting
  2.  Improve their capacity to self-observe and to articulate their bodily sensations and emotional experiences in a variety of situations
  3. Utilize specific practices to continue to build the capacity to self-observe and self-regulate after leaving the workshop
  4. Create and articulate a personally compelling and motivating commitment to improved parenting or family life
  5. Prepare a specific written plan and progress metrics for incorporating workshop results into daily life.
