Parent Directed Supported Living Services in California
This "hands on and how to" workshop is for parents and professionals that are seriously considering supported living as an option for adults who are regional center clients and are ready to acquire the tools they need to start an agency of their own.
You will learn about the steps to starting, the funding sources, the funding needed, staffing tips and leave with tools that will increase your success. We will review and practice some of the tools that will make your job easier.
You will leave with a CD that contains time-tested and refined documents, spreadsheets that help you to do your billing, payroll and other tasks. These documents may be altered to meet the needs of your newly formed agency and are a gift to you from Trudy at Journey of Choice, with your registration.
Presented by Trudy Marsh Holmes, Executive Director of Journey of Choice, Inc. and Director of Community and Family Services at Parents Helping Parents. Journey of Choice was established over 3 years ago as a parent-directed supported living services agency created to respond to the individualized needs of Trudy's daughter.
Jarhari Smith, Program Coordinator of Journey of Choice, Inc., will be available to answer your questions about systems of care and how successful planning, training and supports are essential to your son or daughter's success in a supported living environment.
Guest speaker: Pamela Glover, from the San Andreas Regional Center who is the Supported Living Resource Specialist.
Trudy's personal declaration: "Through me a group of people will align to create continued learning and meaningful ways to fill the days of our adult children that have developmental disabilities."
Bring your laptop if you have one so that you can walk through the spreadsheets that will make some of the tasks less complex. Wireless internet available.
Microsoft Office is needed to open most of the documents or Open Office if you don't have Microsoft Office, Open Office is free and available at http://www.openoffice.org/.
Supported Living Services (SLS) consist of a broad range of services to adults with developmental disabilities who, through the Individual Program Plan (IPP) process, choose to live in homes they themselves own or lease in the community.

The Service Design Template will be available for purchase at the class. The template can save you months of research and work. Writing the Service Design is one of the most daunting tasks in starting your Supported Living Agency. The Service Design Template holds all the areas that need to be included by most regional centers, though it is geared toward San Andreas Regional Center.
View Template Example
Many of the areas are populated with information that there is no reason to rewrite; others you are prompted with specific questions that need to be completed to fit the criteria for that area. Examples are offered throughout and are there for modification and adaptation to your agency and son/daughter.
