Did You Know….
Assistive Technology (AT) is any tool that can help people with disabilities work around challenges so that they can learn, communicate or function better. For school-aged children with disabilities, assistive technology includes many devices, software programs and apps that can help them in the areas of reading, writing, communication, math, social skills, computer access and more. Federal law states that all children receiving special education services MUST be considered for assistive technology when developing the IEP (Individualized Education Program). Are you prepared to discuss AT your next IEP meeting?
In this workshop you will learn:
What Assistive Technology (AT) is and how it might help students
How the IEP team appropriately considers AT when developing the student’s IEP
Definitions and laws regarding a student’s right to AT
When the school is required to provide AT
What AT assessment is and when it may be necessary
For: Parents & Professionals
*Please note that the focus of this presentation is on the AT consideration process in the IEP. This is not a presentation on assistive technology tools.
