Autism Speaks
Our History
Autism Speaks was founded in 2005. Merging with three leading autism organizations (ACRE, NAAR and CAN) and building upon their legacy, Autism Speaks collaborative efforts have resulted in:
$3 billion increase in authorized federal research funding for autism
$550 million investment in primarily scientific grants
Creation of one of the world’s largest open access autism genomic database
Over $9 million in community autism-related grants and scholarships
Autism Treatment Network of 11 top medical centers and facilities providing cutting-edge clinical care
More than 18 million people have received free autism information and resources
85 cents of every dollar funds research, advocacy, programs and services
Our goal is to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders. We are dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and a cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder.
AGRE is a DNA repository and family registry, housing a database of genotypes and phenotypic information available to the entire scientific community. AGRE is the first truly collaborative autism gene bank to be established for autism research. It meets the highest scientific standards, but follows the parents agenda: namely that time is of the essence for our children. The technology has already arrived – all we need are the families to make the critical difference in the pace of Autism research – won’t you join us in this historic effort?
The Autism Response Team (ART) is an information line for the autism community. Our team members are specially trained to provide personalized information and resources to people with autism and their families.
