Bay Area Legal Aid provides free legal services to low-income clients in the counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara. Our vision is to provide clients equal access to our services and high quality legal assistance throughout the Bay Area regardless of a client’s location, language, or disability. The program embodies the highest ideals of the legal profession and is accountable to its clients, funding sources, and the civil justice delivery system. Bay Area Legal Aid offers legal assistance to the entire low-income population of the greater Bay Area – all age groups, all communities, all neighborhoods, all ethnicities. We provide low-income clients with free civil legal assistance, including legal advice and counsel, effective referrals, and legal representation. We are the largest civil legal aid provider serving seven Bay Area counties:
Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara.

Bay Area Legal Aid provides legal services in the area of health care coverage and  access, including:

We help our clients protect their families, their health, and their livelihoods through the following practice areas and special projects:
Consumer Protection
Including: Unfair and deceptive business practices, debt collection abuses and harassment, student loan collection, credit access and inaccurate reporting, and enforcement of other consumer rights and remedies.

Health Care Access
Essential health care access, including Medi-Cal, Denti-Cal, Medicare, Paratransit, county-based indigent programs, In-Home Supportive Services, Covered California, and private health insurance.

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention
Including: Temporary restraining orders, legal separation/divorces, support orders, safe custody, and visitation orders.

Immigration
Holistic services for immigrant survivors violence and sexual assault including VAWA and U Visa petitions, family law matters, income security, housing, and health care access.

Economic Justice
Including: Income security, removal of barriers to employment, SSI/SSDI, CalWorks, General Assistance, CalFresh, and county-based indigent programs.

Housing Preservation and Homelessness Prevention
Including: Landlord-tenant matters, subsidized and public housing issues, unlawful evictions, foreclosures, habitability, and enforcement of fair housing laws
