RECREATION PROGRAMS
Register for a recreation program
The Therapeutic Recreation Program offers inclusive services that support youth with special needs, ages 5-12 (in summer) and grades K-5 (during the school year) at James Kenney Community Center. Youth have the opportunity to enhance social, physical, and behavioral skills in groups with their same-aged peers while participating in fun and exciting daily activities. Scholarships are available upon request.

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM
- Grades: Kindergarten to 5th
- Location: James Kenney Community Center
- Cost: $200 for a 4-week session
- Hours: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
The Therapeutic Recreation Afterschool Program offers structure and fun for youth with special needs. Youth participate in activities ranging from homework and reading help to art activities and sports and games.
SUMMER FUN CAMP
- Ages: 5 to 12 years old
- Location: James Kenney Community Center
- Cost: $450 for a 3-week session
- Hours: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
The Therapeutic Recreation Summer Fun Camp offers an engaging summer camp experience for youth with special needs. Youth participate in activities ranging from sports and games to arts & crafts, nature exploration, and field trips.
BAY AREA OUTREACH & RECREATION PROGRAM (BORP)
Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to improve the health, independence and social integration of people with physical disabilities through sports, fitness and recreation programs. BORP believes that sports and recreation provide a path to greater achievement to which all people should have access. BORP offers year-round sports and recreation programs serving a wide variety of ages, interests and abilities. Want to play? Call (510) 849-4663.
CAMPS
Escape to the Sierra Nevada with the City of Berkeley: we have summer sleepaway camps for youth, families, adults, and seniors. You can swim in a lake, hike in the forest, enjoy meals cooked for you, or let your children explore the wonders of the high sierras with counselors.
When you join us at either Echo Lake Camp (near South Lake Tahoe) or Tuolumne Camp (near Yosemite), you can participate in traditions shared by generations of Berkeleyans, or create new ones of your own with family and friends. Households and individuals of all backgrounds are welcome to share in Berkeley’s rich diversity at camp.
Low-income families may qualify for a camp scholarship to cover 50% or 100% of camp fees. Learn more and apply using the Recreation Scholarship Application.
The City of Berkeley is offering a Very Special Family Camp Weekend catered to families who’s loved ones have special needs and disabilities. This program is held at Berkeley Tuolumne Camp near Yosemite National Park August 29th to September 2nd. Berkeley Tuolumne Camp is safe and inclusive space where families can come together and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Here families can unplug from devices, reconnect with others, and relax as they enjoy this special weekend full of fun for the whole family. We provide 3 meals a day cooked for you, all-day activities, campfires, swimming, archery, arts and crafts, and more! All of our program areas are ADA accessible, as well as twenty percent of our tent cabins. Berkeley Tuolumne Camp also provides Fifty to One-Hundred percent scholarships for qualifying Berkeley
