WHO ARE WE?
BETTER HORIZONS is a community based adult behavioral day program that believes that people with developmental disabilities may lead meaningful, high quality and truly productive lives in the community, if given the right opportunity, guidance and time. With consistent training, BETTER HORIZONS’ consumers are expected to develop, progress and maintain skill knowledge gained over time.
The BETTER HORIZONS curriculum reflects an array of services and activities that are functional for the consumers’ current situation.

HOW DO WE OPERATE?
Training Techniques follow the principle of the least restrictive method, and a certain dignity of risk is afforded to the consumer. Activities occur in natural environments using natural materials to allow for the greatest possible independence and productivity. Various instructional methods are used: modeling, supervised trials, positive reinforcement, & discussion.

We believe in keeping consumers actively engaged in productive and enjoyable activities, thereby reducing maladaptive behaviors.

BETTER HORIZONS’ adaptive living skills or behavior modification program is offered in close working relationship with consulting psychologist. Antecedent and functional analyses of behaviors together with effective positive reinforcements have brought the operation much success.
