I am a Certified Lexercise Clinician specializing in English reading and pronunciation tutoring, online or in-person. I can customize these programs to meet your needs:
LEXERCISE
Lexercise blends face-to-face instruction with daily online practice, to make intensive tutoring affordable. Developed by speech therapist and reading specialist Sandie Barrie Blackley, Lexercise is an Orton-Gillingham based, multisensory structured language program, delivered through its own online portal, and is especially suited for dyslexic learners, beginning readers, English language learners, or anyone who wants to make progress quickly. The face-to-face lessons can take place online or in-person, so no matter where you live, I can meet with you. To see how it works and give yourself or your child a free online assessment, go to Lexercise.com.
LIPS®
LiPS® (Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing) is a multi-sensory method of building phonemic awareness, alphabetic awareness, spelling, and reading. It’s especially good for beginning readers or dyslexic learners who need extra attention paid to phonemic awareness. It starts with explicit attention to the phonemes (sounds) of English, assigning each one a name and a picture that reflects the mouth shape and mouth feel of each sound. From there, it moves on to using colored blocks to represent each phoneme in a word, and from there to letter tiles, handwriting, and reading. The hands-on, sensory-based approach helps young children focus and transition from their real-world experience to the symbolic world of spelling. I teach it in person at my San Francisco office in daily, weekly, or semi-weekly lessons.
PATTERNS FOR SUCCESS IN READING AND SPELLING
Patterns for Success is an Orton-Gillingham based, explicit, sequential program that teaches sounds, spelling, and word parts to build reading, spelling, vocabulary, and writing skill. It is suitable for pre-readers, more advanced readers, dyslexic learners, and English language learners. I teach it in person at my San Francisco office, in daily, weekly, or semi-weekly lessons. The student receives an activity book and practice materials to use at home or at school with the assistance of a teacher or parent. PFS was created by a reading specialist, Marcia Henry, who explains the approach in her excellent book, Unlocking Literacy.
PRONUNCIATION TUTORING
For English language learners or anyone who needs to improve their production and perception of the sounds, rhythm, and tune of English, I will show you how the sound system of English works by directly explaining the categories of sounds, exactly how to form them, and how to connect them in natural speaking. Many pronunciation students find it helpful to learn the English spelling system as well, to build reading fluency and vocabulary. For that reason, I often combine pronunciation tutoring with one of the reading programs described above. I can tutor pronunciation either in person or online. An advantage of online tutoring is that we can easily have daily 1/2 hour lessons online to make intensive tutoring more efficient and affordable.
