Coastside Parents Action League for Special Needs Children and Adults, a community organization of families who have children with developmental disabilities, began as a small support group around 1998.

It  grew to include about 170 families throughout San Mateo County, many of them in coastal communities.

“C-PALS strives to create an environment which allows our children to reach their full potential and to become active members of our community,” President Debby Lesser said in an e-mail. “We work with community organizations and agencies — such as Special Olympics, parks and recreation, Hope Services, Parca and many others — to gain full access to programs and services for special needs children, allowing our children to integrate into the community to the best of their abilities. We also act as a resource and support for families.”
