Developmental Disability Future Planning Group of California — DDFP-CA, also on Facebook — created in response to the statewide crisis caused by the dearth of supported living situations for adults with intellectual disabilities and/or developmental disabilities. The group specifically helps other families troubleshoot together the complicated process of completing their Caregiver Succession Plans and Independent Living Arrangements.

DDFP-CA is the statewide online monthly meeting group of a county-by-county network of families and individuals impacted by the crisis of adults with intellectual disability and/or developmental disability (ID/DD) who have aged out, or are about to age out of services provided by their local county office of eduction programs. Also, aging adults with ID/DD whose parents can no longer care for them are in crisis, so the Regional Center is now piloting a program at the Alta California Regional Center called Coordinated Future Planning Initiative. In response, family advocate Mary Nisson started up DDFP-Yolo County, which serves as DDFP-CA’s pilot group. Her vision is that, helping each other in county-based friendships, we can troubleshoot ways to advocate for inter-agency efforts between adults with ID/DD, families, government agencies, and other allies to plan safe, fully inclusive communities for today’s and tomorrow’s adults with ID/DD.

If you would like to start up an online chapter in your county, please send an email with your name, county of residence for you, and the county of residence of the family member with disabilities. Or, if you just want further information, please email.
