Family Support Services
Family Support Services assists families who face serious challenges in successfully caring for their children. These include families with children who have mental or physical disabilities; families taking care of children who are substance exposed, medically fragile, or are HIV+; and families in which grandparents or other relatives have had to step in to care for children. Family Support Services also works with families in which children are at risk of abuse or neglect to help parents improve their parenting skills and ensure that these children are raised in safe, healthy, and nurturing environments.
Respite/Child Care is specialized care for children and is designed to give parents and other caregivers a break from the daily demands of caring for their children, many of whom have special needs. These may include children who: have a developmental disability, are medically fragile, are substance exposed, are abused or neglected (or at-risk for abuse or neglect), are challenged by other special needs, or are mildly ill.
Our Respite/Child Care Program was designed to meet a range of special needs. The purpose of respite is to provide occasional child care breaks to families in order to relieve some of the stress and responsibility that full-time care-giving brings. It is up to you to determine how you use your respite time.
Respite can be used to:
- Keep important personal or medical appointments
- Spend time alone, or with friends or family members
- Get some rest!
- Go away for an evening or weekend
- Fill in as child care on a temporary basis
