Our law firm has specialized in providing legal services to families with a developmentally disabled member for over 15 years. These services include, but are not limited to the following:

• CIVIL LITIGATION: We represent parents and families of developmentally disabled persons in wrongful death, personal injury and medical malpractice actions. We have extensive experience regarding recoveries on behalf of minors as well as new laws affecting recoveries on behalf of developmentally disabled persons.
• LIMITED CONSERVATORSHIPS: We provide Limited Conservatorships for adult men and women who are developmentally disabled. This is a court procedure that will give parents many of the rights they had over the child as a minor but lose when the child reaches 18 years of age. Other family members may serve as conservators as well.
• SPECIAL NEEDS TRUSTS: For most developmentally disabled adults, the primary source of income through out their lives will be federal resources presently provided through SSI. Through the use of an estate plan which includes a “Special Needs” Trust, parents may provide some portion of their estate to be held in trust for the developmentally disabled child to provide for those needs which are not met by government assistance.
• STERILIZATION: Although a minor child may not be sterilized, laws have been enacted establishing a procedure to obtain the power to sterilize an adult developmentally disabled person. These laws are a direct result of the California Supreme Court decision in ther Conservatorship of Valarie N., (1985) 40 C 3rd 143, a case Allen Fleishman took through six years of litigation. Allen has since handled other sterilization cases and has extensive experience in this unique area of law.
