Our mission is to help individuals and families remain in or return to stable housing and to assist with special housing projects or renovations in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. In addition, HIF supports efforts to identify long-term solutions to the lack of affordable housing in our community.

Programs

The Housing Industry Foundation supports three programs: Affordable Housing Initiative, The Emergency Housing Fund and the Renovations program.

Affordable Housing Initiative

As housing in the Bay Area continues to be an acute challenge, HIF recognizes the need to support working families that educate our children and provide services to the community. Many families earn too much to qualify for assistance but not enough to be stably housed.

Through our extensive network of landlords and property management companies, HIF matches qualified applicants living in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties (particularly those in the education, non-profit and other community-based sectors) who fall in the 50-80% of Average Median Income (AMI) to affordable housing at up to 50% below market rates for up to three years. Households that are close to this range, will be considered depending on circumstances and their overall financial picture

The EHF grants are designed for recipients who can demonstrate the ability to meet future expenses. We offer a lifeline to individuals and families dealing with unforeseen but temporary financial setbacks such as medical bills, job loss or a death in the family.

The Renovations program is a series of special projects undertaken throughout the year to rejuvenate non-profit housing organizations operating in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. By using our ties to housing industry professionals, HIF offers these renovations to non-profits at no cost, enabling them to use their funding to focus on their vital homelessness prevention programs.
