Inspired to Learn Tutoring (Free Online Tutoring for Kids with DS)
Inspired to Learn is a student run non-profit organization that supports children with Down syndrome by providing free online tutoring, social engagement and mentoring.
The program matches children with Down syndrome of all ages with a peer tutor for weekly online sessions (over Zoom or Google Meets at a mutually convenient time. Some families seek to work on a mix of academic tutoring, social skills/conversation practice and/or just general mentorship and friendship. The volunteers are kind and mature middle and high school kids who self select to be part of this amazing program. To date, after the initial session, almost all parents/child want to continue with the assigned peer tutor.
If there are any conflicts with scheduling or other, a switch to the peer tutor of course can be made.
Inspired to Learn was founded by Beckett and Phoebe Song to help individuals with Down syndrome, like their older brother Elliott. Elliott is 16 and thriving in life, in part because of the support of wonderful teachers, peers, tutors and role models.
Inspired to Learn started as a program under the Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network, which is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization through its affiliation with VMC Foundation (tax payer ID 77-0187890).
The organization is proud to announce that it is a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
