Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services
Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services exists to improve the quality of life for children with cancer and support their families in the challenges they face.
Our service area includes Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, and South Santa Clara Counties in California.
Services:
Family Services
We tailor our services to meet the needs of individual families first.
Our team of bilingual Family Support Specialists work directly with families to identify which programs will be the most beneficial to their unique situation. Whether it be practical, financial, emotional or peer support, Jacob’s Heart is there for as much or as little as your family needs.
Transportation
The Jacob’s Heart transportation program exists so that no seriously ill child will ever miss a medical appointment due to lack of reliable transportation.
Counseling
As families navigate the complexities of a pediatric cancer diagnosis, the counseling program at Jacob’s Heart is a safe space to learn, feel and share along the way.
Groceries and Goods
Jacob’s Heart delivers fresh groceries and essential home goods on a weekly basis to the homes and hospital rooms of children in treatment.
Financial Assistance
Direct financial assistance helps families keep bills paid, lights on and refrigerators stocked while dealing with the financial hardships of pediatric cancer.
Social Connections
Peer mentorship is woven throughout our programs, giving families an opportunity to share and learn from others who’ve struggled with similar hardships.
Support Groups
Jacob’s Heart fosters peer mentorship with support groups for parents and siblings. Children in treatment get the opportunity to play and create while parents get the connection they need.
How it works
We offer three monthly support groups for in-treatment, out of treatment, and bereaved families. All support groups are available in both Spanish and English.
Family Events
Our family events create moments of joy amidst the challenges of pediatric cancer. We host an annual Camp for kids in treatment, quarterly art therapy events, a holiday Adopt-a-Family program, a retreat for bereaved families and so much more.
How it works
Family Support Specialists connect with each family updating them on upcoming events. Families receive monthly newsletters with updates and ways to connect with other families.
