Kids With Dreams (Stanford University Service Group)
Kids with Dreams is an organization of Stanford students dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with special needs. Through its weekly programs, the organization networks Stanford volunteers with community organizations and to connect them with children and young adults with special needs. Through fun activities like playing soccer, swimming, rehearsing a play, making arts and crafts, and practicing dance moves, volunteers and kids alike get to have a blast while building skills and friendships that are meaningful to all.
All of our weekly programs are free and drop in, so please feel free to come whenever you are available!
Programs
Dance
When: Sundays from 1:30-2:30pm (in person), 3:15-4pm (Zoom)
Where: 338 Arguello Way (basement floor)
The KWD Dance Program is a quarter-long weekly dance class taught entirely by Stanford
volunteers! Each Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30pm on campus, volunteers host a class consisting of
a beginning social circle/activity, a dance warmup, an across-the-floor combo, learning new
steps, and a final freestyle circle at the end. Participants will also learn new parts of a routine
each week, which they will perform at the end of the quarter in a show for their parents. Dance
program director Emily teaches the class, and Stanford volunteers pair up with participants in a
1:1 or 1:2 ratio to help them learn and execute the steps. Each class is very high energy and
low pressure, encouraging everyone (participants and volunteers alike) to move their bodies in a
way that feels fun and free. We also have a remote Zoom dance class option, hosted from 3:15
to 4:00 pm every Sunday.
Basketball
When: Sundays from 3-4pm
Where: Manzanita Field basketball courts (742 Campus Dr)
KWD basketball is a weekly on-campus program that currently runs on Sundays from 3 to 4 pm
on campus. We play basketball for around 1 hour, doing short warmups and drills for the first
half, and playing a fun pickup game for the second half. No basketball skills required, just
enthusiasm for the game!
Karate
When: Saturdays 1-1:30pm
Where: Roble Arts Gym R114
KWD karate is a weekly karate class on Saturdays from 1 to 1:30 pm on campus. We teach
students basic karate and self-defense skills. No previous karate experience/training necessary!
Buddy Program
When: 2-3x every quarter
Your child will be paired up with a Stanford student and attend fun events 2-3x per quarter.
You'll get to know your buddy and form a wonderful friendship! Fun events include things like a
Halloween party, silent disco, volleyball game, etc. We usually open up sign-ups for this
program in the fall, though if you’re interested in joining please let us know and we can see if we
have an available Stanford student buddy!
Kids with Dreams also participates in the external program SNAP (Special Needs Aquatic
Program).
Please let us know if you have any further questions. We can be reached at
