M.I.N.D. Institute (UC Davis)
The UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute offers both a multidisciplinary clinic and a comprehensive research program for autism, fragile X and other neurodevelopmental disorders. The goal of the M.I.N.D. Institute is to develop methods for prevention, treatment and ultimately cures for autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders. While much work needs to be done, the M.I.N.D. Institute is committed to using an integrated, comprehensive approach in treating and finding cures for these neurodevelopmental disorders.
The MIND Institute is especially known for research and clinical therapies developed for:
- Autism »
- Fragile X Syndrome »
- Down syndrome »
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) »
- 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome »
The Resource Center offers a wealth of information for parents of children and adolescents with all kinds of disabilities, in a welcoming library-like setting.
The UC Davis MIND Institute Clinic provides comprehensive evidence-based assessments of children with possible neurodevelopmental disorders. The clinic providers give treatment recommendations to referring schools, agencies, physicians, and mental health clinicians.
Many children and teens with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other social communication disorders have social problems, such as difficulties making friends and having two-sided interactive conversations. The UC Davis MIND Institute’s Social Skills Training Group Program covers important practical issues involved in helping groups of children learn new skills and techniques for peer interaction. This comprehensive program has been helping children since 2001. The MIND Institute has published two research papers on intervention with children and adolescents, making our program one of the few that is based on empirical research. The Social Skills Program currently operates as a clinical service at the MIND Institute, and is offered on a fee-for-service basis
