One Step Closer Therapeutic Riding is an award winning, Premier Accredited adaptive horseback riding program to help the participants achieve their full potential – physically, emotionally, and spiritually – to be all that God intends for them to be. One Step Closer offers adaptive horseback riding and equine-assisted-therapy to individuals with physical and/or emotional disabilities, and to U.S. Veterans recovering from physical and emotional trauma of war.

Adaptive Riding Program

The Adaptive Riding Program serves children and adults with special needs to help them improve achieve their developmental and therapeutic goals.   Our mission is to help our participants be productive and independent in their daily lives outside the arena, by using safe, exciting, and motivating equine-assisted-therapy.

Participants in the Adaptive Riding Program have challenges that include autism, Down Syndrome, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, ADD/ADHD, traumatic brain injury, and more.

Participants typically attend a one-hour lesson once per week. Lessons may be individual or small groups of 2 or 3 students at a time. Lessons are designed to address the developmental goals of each rider and taught by a PATH International certified instructor.

The Adaptive Riding Program runs Monday-Saturday year round. It is organized into four 10-week sessions which follow the seasons – Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn. OSC is closed for major holidays and extreme weather conditions.

One Step Closer hosts an inclusive Summer Horse Camp for children each summer. The Camp runs from 9am to 12 noon Monday-Friday typically the third or fourth week of July. The Camp includes horseback riding, learning basic horse care, games, crafts, and gardening. A BBQ lunch on Friday includes all family members. Registration for the Summer Horse Camp begins in May of each year. There is a Camp tuition for each participant and a deposit is required to hold a spot. Siblings are welcome.
