Right Start is a family-based preschool, which is the most optimal environment for children’s growth and well-being.

Right Start Preschool is a warm, loving environment where children learn and grow physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually at their own pace. We are an inclusive program and value and welcome all children. Our teachers are kind, professional, and highly experienced. They are committed to ensure that each child is loved, nurtured, and educated in a high quality setting.

Right Start is a family-based preschool, which is the most optimal environment for children’s growth and well-being. We have been accredited 4 times by NAFCC, the National Association for Family Child Care.

Right Start is a mentor site approved by California Mentor Program. ECE (Early Childhood Education) students from De Anza, Foothill, West Valley, and Mission College are placed in our preschool to take their training under our supervision and mentorship for their Practicum Student Teaching Course registered by above colleges.

Right Start is a two-time recipient of Award of Excellence in Early Care and Education from City of Sunnyvale in 2005 and 2006. Right Start was also visited by Mayor of Sunnyvale, Mr. Toni Spitaleri in 2009 in honor of National Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.

We offer a year-round program for Kindergarten readiness as well as a toddler preschool program for 2 to 5 year olds. We have a great teacher to child ratio of 1 to 6 or lower. Full day and half day care are both available. We offer morning and afternoon snack included in tuition.

Our curriculum is developmentally appropriate and is designed according to children’s age and developmental stage. After over 17 years of trying different curriculums, we have chosen our curriculum from different sources such as HighReach Learning, Scholastics, Early SEEDS of Literacy, online resources, trainings, and professional groups we belong to.  I use children’s observations and assessments to plan activities based on children’s developmental needs. These assessment tools include ASQ’s (Ages and Stages Questionnaire), ASQ-SE (Ages and Stages Questionnaire Social Emotional), and DRDP (Desired Result Developmental Profile). We also base our teaching practice on EmergentCurriculum, which focuses on children’s individual interests to create more meaningful learning experiences. We scaffold lesson plans according to children’s knowledge and abilities to help them move to the next level.  There is a balance of activities including weekly art, music, fine motor and gross motor activities, reading, storytelling, and introduction to academics such as phonics, reading readiness, writing practice, and Kindergarten readiness for preschoolers. Based on children’s dynamic and energy level, sometimes we change the plan to movement and dancing if needed!
