SELPA III provides the following services:

  • Explanation of alternative programs and services
  • Assistance to parents when placement changes occur
  • Explanation of legal rights and responsibilities
  • Training for teachers and principals in regular & special education
  • Assistance in placement of disabled children
  • Support for parents regarding their concerns for their disabled children

Children must meet the eligibility criteria for special education services and reside in SELPA III districts to receive services.

Each SELPA [Special Education Local Plan] is required to have an active CAC to:

  • ADVISE the administration of the development, amendment, and review of the Local Plan;
  • RECOMMEND annual priorities to be addressed;
  • ASSIST in parent education and request their input;
  • ENCOURAGE community involvement in the development and review of the Local Plan;
  • SUPPORT activities for students with special needs;
  • EDUCATE by offering informative meetings and support.
