Parent to Parent Support - Information, Referral, Mentoring

The South East SELPA is a champion for all students having the social emotional and academic skills to be successful lifelong learners. The South East SELPA supports teaching and learning in partnerships with families, schools, and community agencies. We encourage each partner to demonstrate a spirit of respect, responsibility and shared commitment to excellence. Special Education Local Plan Area The South East Consortium Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is composed of eleven school districts and the Santa Clara County Office of Education. The overall purpose of the SELPA is to ensure that quality special education programs and services are available to meet the individual needs of special education students. The South East Consortium SELPA is a support service office. Its primary goal is to promote success for all learners by providing quality services and support in a professional and timely manner. Support services provided by the SELPA office include: Aternative Dispute Resolution California Special Education Management Information System (CASEMIS) Community Advisory Committee (CAC) Fiscal Management: Special Education Funding Information Dissemination Professional Development and Parent Education Special Education Local Plan and Policies

The CAC is a team of parents and other individuals with a personal or professional interest in securing appropriate services for students wtih special needs. The CAC membership represents the geographic, ethnic, and socioeconimic makeup of the community it serves. The mission of our CAC is to involve interested parents, students, teachers, education specialists and consultants in establishing a networking system between the school and the community.

Vision Encourage parents to actively participate in becoming knowledgeable, empowered, and effective partners in the development and implementation of learning experiences for students wtih exceptional needs.

Goals The CAC works with families to Provide a support group for parents and students Provide an opportunity to talk with professionals who work with children with special needs Increase awareness of available service options Increase awareness of the importance of regular school attendance Encourage community involvement in the development and review of the local plan for special education Provide parent education Support activities on behalf of children with special needs
