Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is Santa Clara County’s health care safety net – in more ways than one. Many people understand “safety net” means that county residents with no medical coverage or ability to pay can get needed medical care. And that certainly is part of our mission. But there are other, perhaps surprising ways in which your public hospital serves as a safety net for the entire community.

  • Provides high-quality, specialized treatment for emergency medical care, trauma, burns and rehabilitation from severe injuries – in some cases the only such treatment in the region.
  • Works and coordinates with other county agencies to plan and prepare for disasters – medical, natural or man-made.
  • Devotes resources to expectant mothers, infants and children to ensure safe deliveries and the healthy development of the next generation.

We are about much more that quality medical care. Our complete approach to health starts with preventing illness and injury in the first place. We provide education and counseling to help people take charge of their own health, and take better care of themselves. And we see patients through their treatment, rehabilitation and beyond. We care for the whole person and we are looking out for the well-being of people in our community.

Supported by the latest in medical technology and modern facilities, our highly trained staff delivers quality and safe care with compassion and respect. As a teaching hospital, affiliated with Stanford and UC medical schools, the medical center attracts the finest physicians and young medical talent.

Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a public hospital owned and operated by the County of Santa Clara.

Here, you’ll find the same high-quality care and coordination available at all SCVMC locations. Our friendly and highly-qualified doctors, nurses, and staff offer a wide variety of services, including family medicine, Ob/Gyn, pediatrics and pediatric specialties, lab, radiology/diagnostic imaging, convenient on-site pharmacy, and more.

We staff a 24/7 psychiatric emergency room (EPS), a seven-day per week mental health urgent care clinic, where walk-in crisis intervention is available, two inpatient units at the hospital, and a number of adult and child/adolescent mental health and substance treatment clinics at various geographically convenient locations in the county.
Our staff are quite ethnically diverse, and provide confidential, culturally-sensitive services in a large number of languages, reflective of the diversity of the population in Santa Clara County.
The Department of Psychiatry is staffed with qualified credentialed physicians, psychologists, advanced practice providers, and licensed clinical social workers.
