Winston Preparatory School is a leading school for students with learning disabilities, including dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD), and non-verbal learning disorders (NVLD).

WINSTON PREPARATORY SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT Facilitate the independence and meaningful participation of students with specific learning disorders through a Continuous Feedback System that develops skill acquisition and the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner. WPS also seeks to influence the field of education with research and implementation models that achieve these ends, in this way.

At WPS we view each student as a unique individual learner who has potential and is Able to Learn . It is also important that our work is grounded in research regarding how people learn and the learning differences that cause students to struggle. We begin our understanding by looking through a neuropsychological lens based on decades of research on learning and cognition. This is just the first step. It is important that we understand both who our students are as learners, as well as who they are as people . WPS students have some notable gifts, and our individual approach allows us to explore and develop these gifts. Everything we do is based on this in-depth Understanding  of each individual student. Each photo above will take you to stories of WPS students who we can begin to understand through the terms dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties and nonverbal learning disorders.

Winston Prep provides support for students wishing to transition to a post-secondary setting. Prior to high school graduation, we work together with the family to identify the types of options that may be appropriate as the next step for the students and to facilitate any other parts of the investigation and application process.
Consistent with the WPS philosophy of individualized education, the transition process is an individualized one that centers on the student and takes into consideration the same set of cognitive, academic, and social-emotional characteristics that drive the entire diagnostic educational process at WPS.

Winston Transitions SF is a highly-individualized gap year program for students ages 17 to 21+ with learning differences such as dyslexia, nonverbal learning disabilities (NVLD), and executive functioning difficulties (ADHD). Transitions SF provides an extension to the Winston Preparatory School educational experience when appropriate by precisely identifying and matching each student’s needs.

Winston in College, a part of the Winston Online campus, offers virtual learning support services for adult students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia, executive functioning difficulties (ADHD), and nonverbal learning disorders (NVLD) who are transitioning to or are currently enrolled in a college program.

Students who enroll in Focus in College will meet virtually one-to-one in live sessions with a Focus instructor to hone the skills in need of development. This could include executive functioning strategies (organization, time management, etc.), Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner (self-advocacy, self-reflection, etc.), reading and/or listening comprehension, writing, note-taking, reading/decoding, socializing & making/sustaining friendships, understanding their learning profile, and digital & media literacy skills.
