Since 1972, 4Cs has been a trusted resource to help parents living and working in San Mateo County find and pay for child care and preschool and to grow as parents. We are also a one-stop shop for our county’s 1,000 licensed childcare providers and preschool programs, investing in the field’s professional development and helping improve program quality through a variety of programs and services. We invite you to learn more about 4Cs and join us in making a difference in the daily lives and healthy development of the children of San Mateo County.

4Cs is dedicated to serving all families in San Mateo County by providing free child care information and referrals.

Choosing quality child care for your child can be an overwhelming task. Our online resources, as well as our Referral Coordinator provide valuable information to help you through this process. Types of Care, Program Philosophy, and Tips for Interviewing Providers will get you started. Quality Care for Infants, Quality Care for Preschoolers, and Quality Care for School-Age Children offers additional information on what to look for in a provider.

Our Referral Coordinator is available Monday through Friday from 9:00 – 4:00 at (650) 517-1400. We also have an online database where you can complete your own provider search. Please feel free to contact our Referral Coordinator with questions after you complete your search.

Through our subsidy program we are able to offer assistance to parents who need help paying for child care. Please visit our Paying for Child Care page for additional information.

4Cs also provides parenting support through workshops and educational opportunities. Our training calendar is updated frequently so please check back often for new opportunities.

Developmental Screenings

4Cs supports early screening of children’s development and connects families to resources they need to ensure the best outcomes for their children. 4Cs utilizes the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) to provide in-person developmental screenings at our office in Redwood City.

We also support parents in using an online version. Contact our Inclusion Specialist at [email protected] to learn more.

All families should have access to quality affordable care for their children. 4Cs advocates at the local and state level for many child care related issues. If you are interested in becoming involved, please visit our advocacy page.

San Mateo County has many resources available for families. Our Resource and Referral Coordinator is here to assist you in finding the services you need or you can visit our Resource page.
