Family Resource Center Programs Posted on January 13, 2015

The City of Aliso Viejo contracts with the Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley to provide after-school Recreational and Homework Club programs at Iglesia Park. The City also collaborates with several organizations to supplement the educational programs in addition to operating a Family Resource Center (FRC) to help families and parents raise healthy, happy children. FRC programs are held at Iglesia Park and throughout the community.

After School Education Programs – Twice a month an educational program is provided for kids 1st-6th grade. Focus includes Safety, Health and Literacy. Examples of programs offered include, Story Time Aliso Viejo Library (AV Library), Helmet Safety (Police Services) Environmental Awareness, Multi-Cultural Awareness, Recycling Awareness (CR& R). Collaborative partners: Mission Hospital, OC Sheriff Crime Prevention, OC Library – AV Branch, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).

Abrakadoodle Art – Abrakadoodle is an art program that offers basic instruction in line, shape form, texture shape and color. It enhances the creativity and gives the children in the program an appreciation for the arts. Art education can have major influences on a child’s ability to learn and think creatively. Through carefully designed lessons, students explore these elements using a wide variety of media, and learn about different artist, techniques and art vocabulary. Family Resource Center Outreach Program – Programs being offer throughout the community this fall including: Basic Raising Skills for Children, Parenting with a Purpose, Aliso Viejo Community Association Events and Special Events. Collaborative partners include: Champions for Change, Consumer Credit Counseling Services of Orange County, Foster & Kinship Care Education – Saddleback College, Miracles for Families – Communication Classes, Orange County Police Services, Second Harvest Food Bank, South Orange County Childhood Obesity Task Force, Southern California Veterinary Medical Association, and Soka University. Free Lunch Program – Free lunch program for those 18 years old & Younger. Lunch must be eaten on site and the time is subject to change. Lunches will be available on June 22 – August 21, 2015 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. and on Friday 12:30 – 1:00 p.m. Homework Club- After school program for kids 1st – 6th grade for assistance with their homework, a light snack is provided. Meets Monday-Thursday 2:30-3:30 p.m. After school program for teens 7th – 12th grade with their homework, a light snack is also provided. Referral Program – Refer families to various programs including and not limited to: Social, Mental Health/Counseling, Child Abuse, Disability Services, Domestic Violence, Education, Employment, Food Banks, Foreclosure Prevention, First Time Home Buyer Programs, Financial Literacy Programs, Financial Assistance, Housing, Identity Theft: Deter, Detect and Defend and Legal Services. Special Events- Pet & Vet Clinic January 17, 2015, Snow Fest January 24, 2015, Job and Resume Classes, Community Health, Resource and Safety Fair June 27, 2015 , Pet & Vet Clinic Saturday, August 15, 2015, Community Nights Forums (English/Spanish), A Day for Kid September 18, 2015, Founder’s Day Fair Saturday, October 3, 2015, Operation Homework December 6, 2014 (Tentative) and Seasonal Celebrations for Kids. Teen Program – Teen program will be is provided by the Boys & Girl Club. Keeping to tradition, the program includes Education & Career Development; Arts, Health & Life Skills; Sports & Recreation and Character & Leaders. The Aliso Viejo Family Resource Center is located at the Iglesia Community Center, 24671 Via Iglesia, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656. It is one of several Family Resource Centers throughout Orange County and is open to Aliso Viejo residents.
