Founded in 2010, The College Link Program (CLP) is an ancillary student support services program designed to provide services beyond the typical accommodations provided through the Americans with Disabilities Act. Our mission is simple: to help students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to transition and succeed in the higher education environment.

Our goal is to assist students in leveraging their individual strengths to facilitate academic and social success. The CLP staff fosters student educational, career, social and independent living skills through creative and flexible approaches to individual needs. The College Link Program philosophy is to increase student independence and decrease dependence on familial and coaching support over the course of the student’s educational career.

FOUR DOMAINS OF SUPPORT
The College Link Program (CLP) supports students in four different domains. Please note: COVID-19 has necessitated changes to some aspects of the supports listed below.

SOCIAL SKILLS

INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS

CAREER PREP SKILLS

College is a time where a student is expected to become an adult. CLP supports its students in developing independent living skills that one needs to excel in college. Here are some of the skills we concentrate on at CLP:

  • Organization Skills
  • Time Management
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Accountability
  • Email Communication
  • Schedule Planning
  • Public Transportation

CLP offers independent-living coaching specific to the CLP students that choose to live on campus. Coaches will go to Housing and work with students on a variety of skills that include:

  • Daily Chores
  • Monitoring Student’s Daily Self-Care
  • Planning for Safety Drills (i.e. mapping out fire escape route)
  • Socialization with Peers
  • Laundry

CREATIVITY LAB

Creativity Lab is a collaboration between the College Link Program and the Department of Theatre and Dance. Every week students (with and without disabilities and from all artistic disciplines) come together to work on diverse creative projects. We discuss issues in art-making, disability, and identity, and then share our unique perspectives with each other to help everyone grow their artistic practice. Everyone is welcome to come participate!

In Spring Semester, the projects students work on in Creativity Lab culminate in the Spectrum Showcase.
