Children’s Health Council (CHC) has been helping children and families in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties as well as the greater San Francisco Bay Area for more than 60 years. Our mission is to remove barriers to learning, helping children and teens become resilient, happy, and successful at home, at school, and in life. CHC helps kids with ADHD, Learning Differences (LD), Anxiety & Depression, and Autism Spectrum Disorders by promoting Social Emotional Learning, Academics, Executive Functioning, and Physical Development.

CHC’s five major divisions include:

  • The Center: Provides expert interdisciplinary evaluations, individualized treatment and personalized programs to meet every child’s unique challenges and needs.
  • Sand Hill School: Works with bright K-8 children, with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia as well as attention and social challenges. Sand Hill school is a member of the Inclusive Schools Group
  • Esther B. Clark School: Therapeutic day school providing transformative education for children in Grades k-10 struggling with anxiety, depression or other emotional and behavioral challenges. (Please see our separate entry for this school – https://www.php.com/directory/esther-b-clark-school-chc/)
  • The Community Clinic: Serves underserved families in Santa Clara County in both English and Spanish, ensuring cost isn’t a barrier to getting help. The Community Clinic has two offices, one at Children’s Health Council in Palo Alto and the other in San Jose.
  • Parent, Teacher, and Professional Education: Offers unique classes onsite from September through May presented by CHC experts in psychology, education, and child development.

The Schwab Learning Center at CHC celebrates the fact that we all learn in a variety of ways. We help college and high school students with diverse learning challenges succeed in all areas of their lives.

Now offering one-day assessments for autism
for children from birth to age 5
• Assessments take place during one visit from 9am to 2pm and include testing with a psychologist
and speech and language pathologist, parent interviews, and a feedback session. The visit includes
opportunities for playtime and a lunch break, and is paced appropriately for young children.
• Assessments provide detailed information on developmental, adaptive, speech/language, and
social-emotional functioning, and may be used to support requesting services from other providers,
including insurance companies, school districts, and regional centers.
• A report will be shared with family within 14 days of the assessment. We will provide information
and support to make sure the family has the tools necessary to help their child reach their full potential.
• Assessments may be conducted in English or in Spanish.

Why are PEN (Parents Education Network) and CHC joining forces?

This is a strategic expansion opportunity for two organizations with a combined 80 years of experience that share the same mission. For PEN, it provides scale to serve more families, kids and educators. For CHC, it reinforces our commitment to kids with learning and attention differences, helps us serve more kids and families, raises our visibility, and expands our education offerings in our Community Education Network. As a result, we’ll have even more advocates for our kids and families.
