Do you have concerns regarding a specific need for a screening such as dyslexia or ADHD or have interest in a giftedness screening? Or perhaps you are interested in a limited scope assessment such as the area of intellectual assessment or academic areas to facilitate private school evaluation needs. Maybe you would like to know more about yourself and explore ideas for different vocational paths. We offer a variety of assessment options to meet your needs.

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTS
We offer a variety of high quality, comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to address the question: why am I struggling?

We will work with you or your loved one to identify strengths and areas where support may be needed by looking at their cognitive, academic and general psychological functioning.

Generally speaking, our assessments consist of a one-hour intake interview, clinical rating scales/forms, and a review of pertinent records. Testing hours vary depending on the nature of the evaluation request. At the conclusion of our assessment, we will meet with you to make sure you understand our findings and recommendations.

SCHOOL NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS
Are you interested in how your or your loved one’s brain works? We are, too! Our school neuropsychological evaluations are conducted by a diplomate of the American Board of School Neuropsychology, who will guide you through the details of the results. This in-depth at your brain’s strengths and challenges will give you a conceptualization of how your brain functions.

DARLENE NORMAN, LEP, ABSNP
Licensed Educational Psychologist
Diplomate in School Neuropsychology

I’ve worked as a credentialed school psychologist in Washington State and California since 2007. I spent 8 years as a program specialist/school psychologist in a hybrid role for an elementary district and a high school district. In addition I served another 4 years as a director of student services and special education in an elementary district and high school district. I enjoyed the role of a district administrator as I am passionate about building and creating Multi-Tiered System of Supports that benefit students within the educational system; however, with a young child with DeafBlind and significant medical needs it was important to create a more balanced schedule. I continue to work primarily as a school psychologist in public education and enjoy working with and serving my school community. The field of school psychology and educational psychology are currently facing a shortage when there is a great need in our communities. I enjoy working with graduate students to help complete their fieldwork and internship hours to gain practical field experience so that they are ready for their careers when they graduate.

An area I am passionate about is supporting families with low incidence disabilities who have varying unique needs. A new project I’ve created is developing a secure, easy to access, shareable, online passport and portfolio about my daughter to share with her educational team. As a child with a large team there are always new people joining her team and it has become a simple and easy way to share current and relevant information with her entire team at one time and keep it updated for her team to view at anytime needed. Contact me at Embraced IDEA for additional information on this project!

MAY NGUYEN, LEP, NCSP
Licensed Educational Psychologist
National Certified School Psychologist

I have served in education for over a decade in various roles including early intervention specialist, instructional assistant, professor assistant, school psychologist, and university adjunct faculty member. I highly enjoy collaborating and sharing knowledge, which I have the privilege of doing in my current roles at the California School for the Blind and California State University, East Bay. Teaching graduate courses (including psychoeducational report writing, cognitive and developmental assessment, advanced school psychology service delivery, and crisis in schools and mental health settings) keeps me up-to-date on best practices. I have been honored to provide trainings and webinars for local, state, national, and international audiences along with my superb colleagues. Supporting meaningful growth, self-advocacy, and mental wellbeing are some of my areas of interest. My articles in the CASP Today and CTEBVI Journal focused on supporting the mental health of students with visual impairments.

MAYA ANDERSON, LEP, LMFT
Licensed Educational Psychologist
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

I am passionate about supporting clients who are struggling and need a supportive space to commit to better understanding themselves and what they want to make of this journey. I have extensive experience in working with anxiety, depression, communication issues and anger.

My background began working with schools and parents as a special education teacher for students on the autism spectrum. I later decided to follow my interests in evaluation by becoming a school psychologist and licensed educational psychologist. I found that the therapeutic connections I made through assessment to be particularly rewarding and made the decision to pursue an additional license in the field of therapy.

My background in education lends itself to working with children and adolescents as well as adults. I have had the privilege of working with families in schools and feel my experience in this capacity has prepared me for understanding the unique situations facing families with challenging issues.

Together, we can work to amplify this desire for change into a pattern of growth that positively impacts your relationship with yourself and your loved ones. I can’t wait to meet you!
