SOAR is a boarding school, camp, and GAP year program dedicated to providing experiential education, life skills development and adventure programs to those diagnosed with ADHD and LD.

WE UNDERSTAND THE ADHD AND LD COMMUNITY, BECAUSE WE ARE PART OF THE ADHD AND LD COMMUNITY.
SOAR was founded in 1977, by an adult with a learning disability, who believed that focusing on an individual’s strengths, rather than their deficits, was critical in ensuring success. Throughout the past 40 years, our programs have been adapted around the specific needs of the LD and ADHD youth we serve. Our understanding of this population is in everything we do- in the way we approach challenges and adventures, in the way we structure each day, in the way we handle conflicts, and in the way we celebrate each participant’s abilities. The SOAR community, comprised of committed instructors and motivated participants, plays an integral role in the success of each student.

SOAR offers outdoor adventure programs for every stage of your child’s life from camp soar, to our accredited boarding school, to our GAP Year Program for young adults!

Alternative School Environment

The Academy at SOAR is an adventure-based boarding school for grades 7–12 that offers an alternative learning environment that combines academics, adventure, and life skills development to help prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally for adulthood.

Our student-centered model promotes active learning through instruction in: Academics, Adventure, Self-Advocacy, Independent Living Skills, Experiential Learning, Field Studies, Community and Empowerment.

The Academy at SOAR operates on a 4-week cycle: two weeks on campus and two weeks on expedition field study. This unique combination provides and alternative learning environment that helps to engage students in the learning experience. While on expeditions, students will participate in high adventure activities such as canoeing the Florida Everglades, hiking the Grand Canyon area, rock climbing in Seneca Rocks of West Virginia, and snorkeling among the tropical reefs of Belize. These expeditions offer an active learning environment for students to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in the classroom.

LD and ADHD Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp

For over 35 years, SOAR outdoor adventure camps for kids with ADHD / ADD and LD have helped youth with learning differences develop self-confidence, social skills and life skills. Campers participate in exciting outdoor adventure activities such as rock climbing, horseback riding, SCUBA diving, llama treks, whitewater rafting, surfing, and much more! At SOAR, campers get the opportunity to live in tents during the majority of their course and fully immerse themselves in the beauty and wonder of the outdoors. We are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association.

The GAP Year at SOAR is specially designed to empower young adults ages 18 to 24 with ADD / ADHD or other Learning Disabilities through adventure, travel, and independent living.

Our gap year program provides young adults the opportunity to discover their talents, to increase self-reliance, and to experience life changing adventures. Developed directly from parent feedback, this program meets the needs of those who have graduated from high school, but are not quite ready to step into a university or work-force setting. Participants are provided a structured environment in which they may pursue areas of interest and travel for the purpose of improving knowledge, maturity, decision-making, leadership, independence, and self-sufficiency. Participants will alternate between Residential Living  in Dubois, WY and Expeditions throughout the western United States.
