November 19, 2024 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM

This virtual training is for parents/caregivers of children ages 12-20 with suspected or known disabilities and professionals; it will be presented in English. Do you think about what your child with special needs will do after they leave school? Has your student been given enough opportunities to develop their self-esteem and self-determination while in school? A successful transition to adult life does not happen by accident. Research indicates that students who are deeply involved in the planning, writing, and implementing of their IEPs are more likely to have successful adult life outcomes.

This training will give you the information you need to get your student started leading their IEP meetings. You will learn the following:
-The importance of self-advocacy
-The difference between self-advocacy and self-determination
-What a student-led IEP meeting is
-How to support your child in leading their IEP meeting

Now that you have learned how to support your child so their voice is heard, encourage them to join us on November 21, 2024 so they can learn how to lead their own IEP meeting!

This webinar will be presented by a PHP Special Education Resource Specialist. This is a Connections California event. Connections California is a project of Parents Helping Parents – Silicon Valley. It was developed and made possible under a U.S. Department of Education grant.
